18 Years and Counting.

Today is my wedding anniversary. If you would have asked me on my wedding day, what I though I’d be doing on my 18th anniversary, I guarantee you that picking up dog shit and grocery shopping would not have crossed my mind. Now don’t get me wrong, today was spent exactly how I wanted.

Yesterday I spent the first 2 hours of my day cleaning. I don’t mean a “lick and a promise” as my grandma would say. I’m taking pull out the fridge, wipe down the cupboards and counters. I even moved the couch to vacuum. I can officially say I am tired of the subfloor. I need to call tomorrow and see how much longer our flooring is on backorder.

We could have celebrated our anniversary last night with a nice dinner and the casino but instead I opted to hit Costco at 5pm and take Addie to Target. Apparently she needs black pants for a choir concert this week. They can’t be leggings and can’t be sweatpants. I had no idea that there is one acceptable shade of black jeans when you are 12. I’m not sure the technical name but I’d call them over washed. Not a nice crisp back but not gray either. Somewhere in the middle. We settled on a dressy black cargo pant, after 3 trips to the dressing room. Oh, and she wore her Converse so there was no hustle in her bustle. We grabbed some Firehouse subs and headed home.

This morning I woke up and decided that today was the day that I was going to cut back all of my plants and mulch the leaves. Apparently I did not relay that to my husband and he was less than excited initially, but we worked together and got it done. We took turns mowing and picking up dog poop. It’s not romantic but damn it was a good feeling when it was done.

Addie had a couple of basketball games this afternoon. Nana made it to both games. I made it to the second. After the game I headed to Meijer to grab a few things. Initially I thought about take out tonight but then I decided that we’d just make something at home. I ended up grabbing the ingredients for marry me chicken which is definitely my favorite dish. Addison had eaten a bowl of soup while I was making the chicken and Brogan was at Kendra’s so it was just Chuck and I. We sat down and ate a nice meal together while watching the Lions game.

Marriage isn’t all rainbows and butterfly’s. It’s working in the yard together and dividing and conquering choir pants and basketball games. Here’s to 18 more adventure and laughter filled years.
